We were involved in smaller conflicts like the one we talked about in Korea. We were able to stop the spread of communism in some areas – like South Korea. ¨Do you think our policy of containment was a good one? Was fighting to keep communism out of South Korea a good idea?

1. Warm Up #2 (student created)
On August 6, 1945, at 9:15 AM, a plane, called the "Enola Gay“ was piloted by Paul W. Tibbets. The United States Air Force dropped an atomic bomb, code named "Little Boy" on Hiroshima. Hiroshima is Japan's seventh largest city. In minutes, half of the city vanished. It is estimated that 60,000 to 70,000 people were killed or missing, 140,000 were injured and many more were made homeless because of the bomb. Deadly radiation reached over 100,000. The city was unbelievably devastated. Of its 90,000 buildings, over 60,000 were demolished.
Do you think there might have been an easier, less harmful way to end the war?
