Some countries require service of all of the citizens – Men and women. Israel for example requires 2 years of service at age 18 for all of their citizens. At the age of 18, all males are required to register for the draft in this country, but not females.
Do you think women serving in combat roles is a good or bad idea? Do you think men and woman should equally share the burden of defending our country?

1. Warm Up
Alliances are made in order to help prevent war and to build diplomatic friendships around the world. However, alliances have lead to a small incident becoming a world war. The US tried to stay neutral in the war because they had friends on both sides, but they were forced to take sides because of the sinking of passenger ships that Americans traveled on and other reasons.
Are alliances a good thing or a bad thing? Should the US avoid alliances in the future?

1. Warm Up (Student Created)
The Illuminati were a crazed cult fighting for a new world order where they would be the supreme over-lords of the world. The government quickly caught on and disbanded them in the late 16th century. But rumors have recently bubbled up stating they did in fact get their new world order and they own the music industry and the government.
“To many people, the Illuminati, formed in 1776 by Weishaupt, did not disappear after the French Revolution, but went underground, assuming different names, with the ultimate goal of one day reaching a New World Order. This Order would consist of a one world government, in which every nation will be destroyed, to be led by the few powerful men of the Illuminati. Within the New World Order are plots to centralize banks and have a single world currency, centralize and control the media and schools and to abolish all religion and morality. “

Monday 2/25
1. Warm Up
When a child does something wrong or breaks a rule they are punished by their parents. When an adult breaks rules they may lose their job, pay fines, or they may even go to jail. Countries and leaders often break “rules” or do “something wrong.” This often leads to war, but nobody “wants” to fight a war.
-What should be done with countries and governments when they do something wrong or break rules?
-The US often plays the police of the world role, but many people don’t like this. Should we help to ensure that countries/leaders follow rules and do the right thing? Who should if we don’t?

Organized cheerleading started as an all-male activity as early as 1877. Cheerleading has been a part of high schools since the late1950’s.
A major debate in high school is whether cheerleading is a sport or not. Cheerleaders are a big part to our sporting events and pep rallies.
How do you define "sports"? Does cheerleading fit into this criteria (what about bowling, golf, figure skating, or race car driving?) Would you consider cheerleading a sport? Do you think it’s just a biased question; girls vs. guys? If you do or don’t think it’s a sport, why?

Martin Luther King Jr. was a very popular man. He was born in 1929 and died in 1968. MLK fought for equal rights for African-Americans, but did not use violence to reach his goal. Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a very popular holiday all across America and has been celebrated for many years. Students even get the day off from school and many people get the day off from work with the idea that they would consider doing community service or attend MLK events.
Why do you think people still celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. day today? Why do we not celbrate Malcom X Day or Rosa Parks Day instead?
How do the things that Martin Luther King Jr. did still effect us in society today?

We have learned about some of the most infamous dictators in Europe. These leaders are the most well known in all of history. They were responsible for the deaths of millions of people and created fear among their people. While there have been good leaders in history, they may not be as well known as these notorious men.
Do we remember many good rulers in history? Does a leader have to be evil and kill millions in order to be remembered? Why or why not?

1. Warm Up (student created)
During World War II, Adolph Hitler ordered People (mostly Jews) to be sent to concentration camps. One of the most famous camps is Auschwitz. Although the Holocaust is now part of history, people believe Auschwitz should be preserved. There is a small segment of the world that are Holocaust “deniers.” They believe that the Holocaust was made up and not real, or at the very least was over exaggerated. Most of these “deniers” come from Middle Eastern countries that already tend to hate Jews. Do you think preserving these camps is a good idea? Do you think they prove that the Holocaust actually happened? What other roof can be used to "prove" the Holocaust actually happened?
2. World War II Notes
3. Appeasement & Munich Agreement Reading and Questions
Tuesday 3/19
1. Warm Up (student created)
On December 7th, 1941, the United States was attacked by Japan at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. It was a day FDR said would “live in infamy.” Then Germany and Italy declared war on us. This forced the United States have to join World War 2 even though we did not really want too. The United States government committed to remaining isolationist in European/Asian events, but this left us no other choice.
- Why would we have been attacked if we wanted to stay out of conflicts that happened overseas?
- Do you think that if America was not attacked that we would have entered the war? If not, how would have the results have been different.
